Today, I'm going to give you a little tour of one of Cebu's historical spots in Mactan, the famous Monument of Lapulapu or popularly known as the Mactan Shrine.
Mactan Shrine is a historical park dedicated to preserving the memory of that one historical battle in Cebu that significantly influenced Philippine history. The Shrine was made in honor of Datu Lapulapu.
It is located particularly in Punta Engaño of Mactan Island, which is about 30 minutes away from Cebu mainland. It is one of the most visited historical landmark or attraction in Cebu province.
Mactan Shrine remembers this eventful battle with monuments in the park and of course, the statue of the famous hero, Datu Lapulapu. Consequently, Lapulapu became the first Filipino hero in the Philippines. He is remembered for his bravery against the European conquerors.
This historical place is very well maintained and has become a park/ plaza where anybody could hang out for free. There are stalls inside selling things for souvenirs, from shirt, shell crafts to key chains. Outside the plaza is where SUTUKIL is, where you can eat fresh seafood.
An annual celebration "KADAUGAN SA MACTAN", a reenactment of the Battle of Mactan is held here every 27th of April.
